Straits Times reported today that MOM sent maid agencies a letter in July advising them to treat maids with respect in their advertisements. They are reminded not to:
- market maids like merchandise
- emphasizing cheap fees or discount rates
- display bio-data in the windows
- have maids sit outside like commodities

This was in response to a Al Jaeera report in June that maids were marketed or displayed like commodities by some Singapore agencies.

However, migrant worker welfare groups raised concerns about agencies still had maids doing household chores in mock living rooms visible from the outside, ostensibly for training purpose. They also stressed the need to look beyond the surface for deeper change.
